This is a great film. It has beautiful cinematography and the characters are all interesting. The setting in each vignette is in a taxi cab, in 5 different cities all over the world in one night. I really liked this idea, and how it played out. A taxi cab is a very intimate place where strangers are forced to be in each other’s proximity. In a cab one can associate with people outside one’s normal social sphere, and this situation allows for a riveting dynamic between the characters of the film. I didn’t really like the first vignette with wynonna ryder. i don’t know if that’s how you spell her name. her character seemed a little forced…well…i didn’t believe it. and the whole story between her and the older woman just wasn’t that interesting. However, the other 4 vignettes were great. Paris and Rome were probably the best. The blind girl in the Paris story…i think she had to roll her eyes back in her head for the whole thing. I wonder if that made her feel nauseated? Well, i really fucking believed she was blind. so great job!
I’ve never really been that appreciative of Jim Jarmusch, but I changed my perspective after watching this. I’m going to watch Dead Man soon, so I guess we’ll see how I feel after that too.
